30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 7

My Day in Detail...

This could quite possibly be the most boring recap EVAH, but it's a pretty typical day!

Woke up a little early this morning around 7:15 ish.
Went in the bathroom and found ants coming in from the window sill. UGH.
Cleaned up ants, did some laundry, and got back in bed to check email/FB/blogs.
Got up again, made coffee, J's lunch and my breakfast.
Gabby Dog got up so I let her out.
Headed to computer with breakfast and credit card to complete a supply order.
J got up so I stopped to fix his breakfast then got back to computer and finished placing order and also finished breakfast.
Grabbed my coffee and headed to the shower. Got myself and J ready and headed to the car to take him to preschool.
Dropped J off at preschool a little late around 9:15-ish (which is what always happens when I get up early!!)
Got home, let the dog out (again) and started work.
Around noon, realized I was hungry and made some lunch.
Worked until 12:45 when I had to leave to get J at school.
Got J from school and headed home.
Finally made it home after J needed an emergency pit stop (we live 3 miles from his school, but you don't chance it when a Toddler says he needs to "GO!"), got J a snack, and then worked on a couple of orders til it was time for J's nap around 2.
Got him tucked in and went back to work for the next 2 hours while he napped. I worked on a few more orders from 4-5 while he watched Cars (his favorite!!)
T got home a little after 5 and fixed up some meat for our cookout Saturday while J and I relaxed.
We grabbed a bite to eat out (since neither of us felt like cooking...saving the pork chops for next week!!), returned an ink cartridge at Office Depot and came home.
T and J played outside after we got home while I worked/played on the computer.
T gave J his bath and put him to bed and while I updated some things on the website.
I've been chatting with T for about an hour and a half now, while watching a DVR'd "America's Got Talent" and playing Words with Friends. :-) Probably will work on designs and a couple of website updates, then head to bed within the next half an hour.

(Yes, contrary to what people think, I work A LOT!)

30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 6

My favorite book

I don't have a favorite book. Boring, I know. I am very shallow when it comes to reading...most of what I tend to like falls in the Chick Lit. category (aka "no brainers") and Chick Lit. mysteries. I typically refuse to branch out and read anything set in a time besides modern day. Autobiographies and non-fiction are usually out too.

Yes, I read a great deal of the "classics" in high school and college, but that's because I was forced to for a grade. But, I'll be honest...most of those that I read were Cliff's Notes versions.

*gasp*

(Mom: don't disown me, please.)

I do have a few favorite authors...

Sophie Kinsella
Kate White
Mary Kay Andrews
Emily Giffin
Jennifer Weiner

Here are some books that I recommend, though certainly not favorites!

The Twilight Series

Yes, I read all of these. And liked them. And no, I'm not 13.

The Secret Life of Bees

Good book. Period.

The Devil Wears Prada
Very relevant to me during my first job after college...

The Great Gatsby
Classic, that was good!! No Cliff's Notes on this one!

The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy
If you are pregnant, this is a must have. It makes throwing up multiple times a day for 9 months almost seem humorous.

The 10 Women You'll Be Before You're 35

This is a good book to give as a graduation gift.

During all of this Amazon.com searching/linking, I found that Kate White has a new book coming out, The Sixes. Too bad I haven't yet read her last "new" book, Hush.

Here are a couple of business related books that I HIGHLY recommend:

Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office
This book was especially helpful in my first real job right out of college. I had a female boss who was tough as heck and she (along with this book) helped this sweet girl toughen up and learn how to survive in the corporate world.

The Girl's Guide to Starting Your Own Business
Owned this for many years but read it (again) last summer and it is what helped kick start my current business!

What's in my bag/purse?

I hoard things in my purse. Yep, I'll admit it. My purse is usually a catchall of mine and my son's things, although surprisingly, there are no matchbox cars in it at the moment! My husband and son got me a purse for my birthday last year and I love it so much that I'm still using it...even though it's looking pretty worn. I'm super picky about purses, so when I love one, I hold on to it!

Here is what my purse looks like:

And here is what's currently in my purse:

30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 4

My Favorite Movie

I've watched a lot of movies in my lifetime, but rarely remember them. Anyone else like that?? I do have a select few that I'll always love (and remember!) I guess you could say I've seen each of these a few times...

30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 3

A recent photo and a photo from 10 years ago

It took me forever tonight to find a picture from 10 years ago! None of my photos had dates on them, so I had to figure it out by process of elimination. I think I had photos dating back to at least 1997.

Anyway, this photo is from June 18, 2001.

And this photo is from June 15, 2011.

(This kiddo's daddy is the one with me in the top picture!
Then my boyfriend...now my husband!
Oh, and see what I meant about needing to be fit again? *sigh*)

30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 2

My Favorite Song

I don't actually have one favorite song. To even try to narrow it down would take hours on end. I've always loved music-any kind-and have always been musically inclined. I actually played the flute in the band in middle school and have played the piano since I was 7.

So here are a few of my very favorites:

This song has always been a favorite...probably since high school. I never get tired of it.
Loggins & Messina-Danny's Song (although I like the Anne Murray version too)

I've always adored The Beatles but I remember getting to know this song one summer at an archaeology summer camp. (yes, random, I know!) I remember hearing The Beatles music everytime the group of kids would get in the van to go somewhere. My roomie was a huge Beatles fan and there were four of us that just clicked that summer. Fun times! And one of the best Beatles songs!
The Beatles- In My Life

The singers of this group are a little hard to look at, in my opinion, but their voices make up for it!

30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 1

15 Facts About Me

1. I'm a technology junkie. For my 30th birthday, my parents gave me a new Droid smartphone and laptop. And I was T.H.R.I.L.L.E.D!!!!! :-) (I upgraded from a Blackberry and a 2 year old laptop, so it's not like I was in the dark ages...)

2. My husband and I met when I was 16 and he was 18. We started dating a month or so later and have been together ever since. Believe it or not, we actually waited 7 years before we got married. Now we've been married 6 years and have a 3 year old son.

3. I like lots of punctuation when I write socially (text, email, social media)...and I love the ellipsis (3 punctuation dots).

4. I am an only child. I resent the stereotype that indicates all only children are spoiled brats, even though a large majority of them are.

5. I love photography, but especially photo editing. I don't use Photoshop...just a free photo editing program.

6. I like being sociable electronically. In-person events and phone calls...not so much.

7. I'm crafty and love all things crafty. Etsy is my happy place.

8. I've lived in 7 states in 30 years. The number of cities and times I've moved takes more fingers and toes to count than I have.

9. My favorite color is brown, as long as there is some other color paired with it. My husband's favorite color is blue and green plaid. We are an odd match made in Heaven.

10. Only people very close to me call me by my nickname, Lyd. I get annoyed if people I barely know refer to me that way.

11. I have realized I despise the smell of sunscreen. I gag a little every morning as I spray down my son before preschool.

12. I've always loved skin care and makeup, but have never had flawless skin. Only a few years ago did I find makeup that I finally ADORE. I heart Aveda.

13. I maintain a very small network of close family/friends. But those people know who they are and I am infinitely protective and loyal to them.

14. I love coffee and most recently, iced coffee. I prefer that it have chocolate included. Nuff said.

15. I don't like writing emails, letters, thank you notes (although I'm a stickler about those), or research papers...which is probably why my network of friends is so small! Odd that I have a blog? Yes. Definitely.

Things After Thirty

I've been 30 for one week now. I've decided that 30 years has given me a lot to say, which is why I'm starting this blog. I just need a little outlet and a place to give my opinions, tell stories, or just be mouthy. (Sometimes a girl just needs that.) I also am trying to get fit again...maybe I can hold myself accountable if I write about it to the public?

My friend, Candi, just started a 30 day blog challenge. I think I'll participate too...sounds like fun.

And maybe it will help people get to know the real me (whomever that might be!)
